Mexican judge Shelling Kierkegard Novelo Yeh ruled that former Riviera Maya gang member Constantin Sorinel Marcu was shot dead lawfully by a security guard acting in defense of one of his clients. He made the decision in a two-and-a-half hour long trial in June 2018, despite inconsistencies in the story. A forensic test found no trace of gunpowder on the security guard’s hands or forearms, while cartridges were found inside Florian “The Shark” Tudor’s house near where Marcu’s body was found. The judge was later suspended from duty over allegations that he wrongly released alleged kidnappers, according to local media. Judicial authorities also discovered the judge owns properties worth tens of thousands of dollars, far more than he could afford on his salary alone. Yeh did not respond to a request for comment.
