Florian Tudor’s gang hired Romanian technicians and programmers to modify the technology used in the ATMs and skimming devices. One of them was Cristian Simion, 44, who responded to an online advertisement for a job supposedly located in Germany, seeking people familiar with Bluetooth and other transmission technologies. When Simion was contacted about the position, he was told it had been relocated to Mexico. Unaware of the gang’s real business, he agreed to move to Cancún and worked for Tudor’s group installing skimming devices and software in the gang’s ATMs. But in April 2017 he fled back to Romania. Under pressure from Tudor, Simion initially agreed to return for another brief stint in Cancún, but after being threatened by the gang he turned witness against his former employer.
