The beneficial owner of these bank accounts, which are held in the name of unknown legal entities, is Saodat Narzieva, Usmanov’s sister.

Narzieva is a gynecologist and has worked in medicine for over thirty years, making it extremely unlikely that the money held in these accounts could represent her own earnings.

Furthermore, the contact information for most of these corporate accounts includes email addresses associated with USM, a group Usmanov founded to hold his various business interests, including mining giant Metalloinvest and mobile operator MegaFon. He holds a 49-percent stake in the holding company directly.

In a response to journalists, a representative of Alisher Usmanov said that his sister “never had personal accounts with Credit Suisse.”
