For years, nothing could get in the way of the Riviera Maya gang. The Romanian indictment against several of the gang members details their methods, claiming that violence, blackmail, and extortion were common tactics. Prosecution witness Catalin Raducan said he was attacked and threatened over a property dispute with the gang’s leader, Florian Tudor. A Romanian technician hired to work on the gang’s ATMs in Mexico was threatened after he returned to his country. Andi Constanțiu Dăndică, a real estate developer, was attacked after he fell out with Tudor and his Romanian wife. And the parents of Constantin Sorinel Marcu, Tudor’s former right-hand man, were threatened in Romania after their son fell out with the gang, before he was shot dead in 2018.
