Brian Krebs is an American investigative reporter and former Washington Post journalist specializing in cybercrime. After receiving a tip, he travelled to the Mayan Riviera in September 2015 and discovered a vast and sophisticated ATM card-skimming scheme targeting tourists. After returning home, he published a three-part investigation on his blog, KrebsOnSecurity. The exposé infuriated the gang’s leader, Florian Tudor, who raged in a message to another gang member that the story had “destroyed us.” When “The Shark,” as the crime boss was nicknamed, was arrested in March 2019 for carrying an illegal firearm, Krebs identified him on his blog as a key figure in the skimming scheme.
